30/30 Hoop Challenge: Day 1
30/30 Hoop Challenge: Day 1
Jan 08
It is thrilling to hear from so many people jazzed about hooping for 30 or more mins today.
Making time to hoop for me is a choice, that usually comes the day before. It is something I have to plan because of the time limitations. Like it or not, my family’s needs come first and my needs are usually left for the evenings when I’m sure I have time. And, I’m ok with that. I’m a mom and as such my hoop time has always faced competition from one source or another. Today I planned to hoop and was totally surprised when I woke up to a beautiful snow storm. At the same time, I was also faced a sweet child with a belly bug. (which I’m quickly realizing was also passed to me. ugh!) While one child is sacked out on the couch, the other is chomping at the bit to get OUT into the snow as quickly as possible. In the morning, my personal challenge … in my foggy haze … was to get the kids fed, while caring for the sick one and managing the “snow fun” expectations of the second child, feed the dogs, and the list goes on.
Husband to the rescue!
After a quick trip out into the cold to get a few items for the family, he took over everything so I could hoop. He’s well aware of my 30/30 challenge and knows how excited I am to be part of this adventure. (Did I mention, he’s also very supportive?) While I hooped … slowly and I’ll say a bit sluggishly … I was able to do so with a clear mind, knowing I could leave my responsibilities for a while and just enjoy the time to myself. To me, that’s just about the best gift anyone could give.

You are an inspiration! I think I may just try this challenge. I’ll talk to the hubby tonite and see if he’ll join me. We could hoop for 30 together once our 3 year old is sleeping in the evenings. Fingers crossed I get the same level of support!
Leah,
Here is my Day 1: I started my day with a long drive to North Jersey in the snow for a work meeting. I decided I would take the time during the drive to really set my intentions for my hoop practice. I decided that I did not want to make my every hooping moment about my certification so I decided that I would spend the first 30 minutes warming up and just going with the flow and the next 30 minutes I would practice a move or learn something new for my certification. Today, I also decided on new music as well. I used the Hoopmix CD I received with my training material and I discovered that my flow was so much better when I was not focused on the music. My first 30 minutes were fantastic! I got into a nice flow and really lost myself in the hoop. The second 30 minutes I practiced my chest hooping and getting it from my waist to my chest. I have been able to do a few seconds on the chest for some time but I have a chemo port in my chest and I just cannot break my mental connection to protect the port and so my chest hooping has been slow going. Today, I was able to keep it going for longer and work it up my body! I can also get one arm in the hoop but that is when it lose my focus and just cannot seem to get my second arm in and begin shoulder hooping (which I think might be better for my port) – I completely enjoyed my practice today and I am going to experiment with music as I loved the Hoopmix way more than just my GrooveShark playlist.
I love that you shared that. thank you so much. My hooping as not been as successful as your recent practice. I have been having lots of stops and starts. I find when I put my headphones on and just hoop, I enjoy it more. I also enjoy putting the music together on my player, so I each each step. I also need to make time for it, just like I would make time for the wash or making dinner, as I’m sure you know, time can be limited on certain days. Keep that hoop up!
