Hooping Class

Hooping Class

One of my favorite things to do is check out local hooping classes. Monday I traveled into Center City Philadelphia to check out a great class in Old City. When I walked in I was surprised to see stripper poles. Am I in the wrong class? Not at all. We didn’t use the poles, but they did force us all to be just a bit more careful of our hooping distance between each other. The flashing lights, mirrored walls and pounding music made it the perfect hooping setting.

After a session with a personal trainer in the morning, my night time hooping was lacked luster, but I was surprised just how much hooping is like classic ballet.  It’s about balance and posture.  I was sweating, thinking… what do I remember from those classes my mom sent me to? While I’m trying to get my body to remember, I’m working almost every muscle in my core.

Most of hooping is about proper posture. I used to think I had great posture, but some where along the line, I lost it. I’m working on getting in back and hooping is getting me there … quickly! I can still feel all the muscles that got a surprise wake up call that night. And I can’t wait to do it all again!

I’m not the only one who thinks hooping helps tighten your core, check this out… The Boston Globe Article
